Physics always wins- if you're in an accident between a compact car and a suv or truck, the truck will win. I don't just mean the truck passengers will fare better, the truck will ram right through the smaller car, pushing it out of the way.

I would not cal a modern compact car unsafe though. Compared to the past, they are very safe.

In this case, the exception proves the rule. Chinese cars are still very unsafe by modern standards.
